Dremel 3D20 Idea Builder stuck at "0%" and "printing"

Even when the printer is powered on, and sitting in the menu screen, 3DPrinterOS claims that the printer is printing and gives me error 77.

Annotation%202019-10-23%20190448

I’ve updated both the printer and client to the latest firmware, with no success. In fact, I’m pretty sure that it was working before I updated the printer to the newest firmware. Unfortunately, I’m unable to find older firmware files in an attempt to downgrade.

Could you please Report Problem through 3DPrinterOS Client with verbose mode enabled? That way the logs will be sent to the developers and they can take a look at it.

Hi Oscar - I have had the same problem with the 3D20, and in fact when it is upgraded to the latest firmware (20180611) it no longer works at all. I have found that the only firmware in my particular unit that works is Version 1.3_21050414, and have reverted to that version. Is there anything I can do to help you track this down? I previously sent in 2 log reports as you had requested but have not seen a response.

Many thanks,

Joel Goldwein

I’m having the same issue with my 3D40 and have since sent the error report

Hello. We was able to repeat that problem on Dremel 3D45 after firmware upgrade. We have prepared fix and it is on testing stage.

It will be great if someone who have Dremel 3D40 and Dremel 3D20 will report a problem (using 3DPrinterOS Client’s web interface) with VERBOSE mode ENABLED. Here is little guide to do it:

  1. enter 127.0.0.1:8008 in the browser (or RPI’s IP)
  2. click the “settings” button
  3. click “Edit settings file”
  4. scroll down to the third from last paragraph and enable verbose mode by changing false to true (from ‘“verbose”: false,’ to ‘“verbose”: true,’)
  5. Press “Save” button, and then Quit and Confirm to exit client. After exit you need to restart client again (new setting will be applied only after restart)
  6. Then repeat the printing problem you have and click the report problem if the error occurs

It will helps us a lot to be sure that problem, as we can see on 3D45 is same for 3D20 and 3D40.

Hello. We have released 6.2.2 version of 3DPrinterOS client with fixes for new Dremel’s firmware. Fixes were tested with Dremel 3D45. Please let us know if they work properly with 3D20 and 3D40

Just updated to 6.2.2 and still have connection errors with 3D20 and latest v1.5 firmware

Hello. Could you report problem with verbose mode enabled (like it was described on 6 Feb in this topic Dremel 3D20 Idea Builder stuck at "0%" and "printing")?

Hi, new problem report submitted.

Thank you,

Hello. Thank you. We have checked logs you sent. It is rather strange but printer didn’t respond on M27 gcode at all (we are waiting for response but no result). It looks like a printer’s firmware bug. What other software you are using to print with USB on printer? Could you try to print with DigiLab default software (https://digilab.dremel.com/3D-software ; for ex Dremel DigiLab 3D Slicer). Please use USB for connection and check that you can are getting printing progress with that software.

I can use Simplify3D with direct USB connection. Here is the terminal output from Simplify3D:

Yes, but they are not using M27 gcode. Could you try to start some small printing using Simplify (I am not sure if they can print with dremel)? And check that you will be able to see progress of printing

Looks like M27 works while printing directly from Simplfy3D over USB.

Hello. yes, it looks like M27 is sending correct info on printing. Could you make a next experiment: let’s start printing via USB and Simplify3D and when printing will be in progress, reconnect printer to 3DPrinterOS Client, if it will work (you will see printing_locally state in cloud, temps and progress), then we can provide a fix for this problem. And please click report problem again anyway after.

Report sent. Thank you

Hello. Thank you. So, as I understand 3DPrinterOS Client is able to connect to Dremel 3D20 when printer already printing, is it true? Then we can try to fix this situation. Could you check for a new firmware updates for 3d20? This problem looks like printer’s firmware bug, so maybe they have already fixed it? If there is no updates, then it looks like adopting our client will be faster then connecting with Dremel support team for bug fixing.

Yes, 3DprinterOS can connect when 3D20 printer is already printing. I am using the latest firmware from Dremel (dremel_1.5.20180611.bin). I tried getting v1.3 firmware from Dremel and they refused to share it.

Hello, I have sent direct email to you.

I updated to 7.2.2 beta and it is no longer saying 0% printing but instead the printer appears offline. I sent a report titled “Dremel 3D40 stuck in offline”. Hope this helps to solve this problem. As I said in the report, the printer which appears offline has the latest firmware from Dremel and the other one has the factory firmware

Hello. Could you try with new beta Client Version (you could update existed version from client’s web interface)? And try to connect only one printer with new firmware. If it won’t work it will be great to report problem with verbose mode enabled (Dremel 3D20 Idea Builder stuck at "0%" and "printing") again
